Would you like to be locked up for life, even though you have done nothing to deserve it, in something far worse than a prison, where you will suffer your entire short life, only to be killed after some time? All because someone has the whim to buy a coat made from your wonderful fur. What would you think about that? <\/p>

You would see it as something abhorrent, would you not?<\/p>

Well, that is what happens every year to more than ONE HUNDRED MILLION (with an H and an M) minks, foxes, chinchillas, lynxes, hamsters, and other innocent creatures.<\/p>

But do not leave just yet, because there is more. If they are confined alone in a cage, it causes them loneliness and isolation. <\/p>

And if they share a cage, the space is so limited that the stress they suffer leads them to attack each other, causing bites and amputations, sometimes with bones exposed. Clearly, their wounds become infected and no one treats them. The environment is so toxic that it also causes them psychological harm. <\/p>

Whether isolated or overcrowded, they live such an unnatural life in small, dirty cages where they are always standing on wire mesh and cannot engage in their natural behaviours that many develop psychological disorders, such as anxiety, distress, or depression.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

It is similar to what, in all likelihood, could happen to us under those conditions, as in the case of Ivan IV of Russia. He was emperor from the time he was a two-month-old baby until, when he was one year old, there was a coup d\u2019\u00e9tat and he was confined for life in a cell, where he lived in isolation until he was killed at the age of 20. Unsurprisingly, in those circumstances he lost his mental balance. <\/p>\n

As if all of the above were not enough, we must add the abuse inflicted by certain workers on these animals. Some workers who have worked on fur farms have stated that they have seen them being hit, stepped on, crushed, deliberately run over with tractors, suffocated in plastic bags, skinned alive, etc. <\/p>\n

There have even been reports of cases in which workers gouge out their eyes in fits of rage after being bitten by them as they defend themselves and try to avoid being grabbed.<\/p>\n

However, there are reasons for optimism, as 20 European countries have already totally or partially banned fur farms, though not the sale of fur, which has been banned in Israel and in some US states and cities, such as California, Massachusetts, or New York.<\/p>\n

At the level of the European Union, Fur Free Europe<\/a><\/span><\/span> has gathered 1.5 million signatures and has submitted a petition to the European Parliament to ban, across the EU, both fur farms and the sale of these types of products.<\/p>\n

If the vast majority of Europeans support that ban, the European Parliament will ultimately approve it. And the same will happen in other countries around the world if we can raise awareness among their citizens. <\/p>\n

And for that, it is essential that you persuade other people and share this type of message.<\/p>\n
