The Quran contains some verses that prescribe hospitality, aid, and other benign attitudes, but also others that, depending on how they are interpreted, incite violence against infidels. Even some Hadiths could be interpreted as defending massacres. <\/p>

These texts are the basis of jihadism, terrorism, and numerous wars of conquest against non-Muslim peoples. Because of them, Islam expanded enormously from the Arabian Peninsula in a short time, coming to dominate from Spain in the West to Indonesia in the East. This has caused great suffering, including genocides with hundreds of millions of innocent victims. <\/p>

Today, it continues to be a cause of great violence toward innocents. In fact, of the 10 terrorist organizations that cause the most harm worldwide, the vast majority are Islamic, also occupying the top 6 positions: <\/p>

  1. Islamic State (ISIS\/ISIL)<\/strong>: Islamic<\/span>.<\/li>
  2. Al-Qaeda<\/strong>: Islamic<\/span>.<\/li>
  3. Boko Haram<\/strong>: Islamic<\/span>.<\/li>
  4. Taliban<\/strong>: Islamic<\/span>.<\/li>
  5. Al-Shabaab<\/strong>: Islamic<\/span>.<\/li>
  6. Hezbollah<\/strong>: Islamic<\/span>.<\/li>
  7. PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party)<\/strong>:<\/li>
  8. ELN (National Liberation Army)<\/strong>:<\/li>
  9. FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia)<\/strong>:<\/li>
  10. Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)<\/strong>: Islamic<\/span>.<\/li><\/ol>

    They have caused a vast number of innocent deaths, injuries, rapes, torture, orphans, and parents mourning the loss of their children, etc., in many countries across the 5 continents. Among their victims are also the more than 10 million displaced people in countries such as Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia, Libya, Iraq, Syria, Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger, Mali, Chad, Mozambique, Burkina Faso, Sudan, etc. They have lost almost everything and must start from scratch. So much unnecessary suffering! <\/p>

    Furthermore, the Islamic State created a highly oppressive Caliphate in Syria and Iraq, which would have continued to expand if not for the reaction of the United States and its allies. The West managed to defeat it, but has been unable to prevent the Taliban from taking over Afghanistan, Boko Haram and other Islamic organizations from controlling considerable areas of Africa, and Muslim terrorism from gaining significant strength in Central Asia. <\/p>


    WHAT DOES THE QURAN SAY?<\/strong><\/p>

    There are more than 100 verses in the Quran that, depending on how they are interpreted, can stimulate all this evil, of which we highlight the following:<\/p>

    Quran 8:12: When your Lord inspired the angels: ‘I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them<\/strong>.'”<\/p>

    Quran 47:4: “When you meet those who disbelieve in battle, strike their necks<\/strong> until you have fully subdued them; then bind them firmly.”<\/p>

    Quran 9:5: “kill the idolaters wherever you find them<\/strong>.”<\/p>

    Quran 9:29: “Fight those who do not believe in Allah<\/strong> or the Last Day.”<\/p>

    Quran 9:123: “O you who believe! Fight the disbelievers<\/strong> who are near you, and let them find harshness in you.”<\/p>

    Quran 8:39: “And fight them until<\/strong> there is no more discord, and religion is entirely for Allah<\/strong>.”<\/p>

    Quran 3:151<\/a><\/span>:<\/span> \u201cWe will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>

    Quran 4:95: declares a great reward and Allah’s preference for the mujahideen (jihadist warriors) compared to those believers who remain behind<\/strong> (those who do not fight the infidels with weapons).<\/p>

    Quran 48:18-21<\/a><\/span>:<\/span> promises many victories and spoils of war<\/strong> in the present and future.<\/p>

    Quran 61:10-11: those who “strive for the cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives” will be saved<\/strong> from a painful punishment.<\/p>

    Quran 49:15: “The believers are only those who have believed in Allah and His Messenger and then do not doubt, but strive with their properties and their lives for the cause of Allah<\/strong>. They are the truthful ones.” <\/p>

    Allah loves those who fight for His cause<\/strong>.<\/p>

    Quran 3:169: Those who die in battle against the disbelievers<\/strong> should not be mourned, for they are still alive with Allah in paradise, enjoying pleasures beyond human understanding<\/strong>.<\/p>

    Other verses that speak of violent jihad include Quran 3:157, 8:60, 9:20, 9:91, 33:26-27, 48:17, 2:217, 2:191, 47:4, or 59:2-4.<\/p>

    All the preceding precepts coincide with what Muhammad and his successors Abu Bakr and other caliphs did: numerous religious wars to expand Islam from Europe to Asia via Africa.<\/p>


    WHAT DO THE HADITHS SAY ABOUT THE MASSACRE OF NON-MUSLIMS?<\/strong><\/p>

    The Hadiths are biographies that narrate what Muhammad did and said, constituting the second great pillar of traditional Islam. We highlight the following: <\/p>

    Sahih Muslim 5:4368 relates the judgment of Sa’d ibn Mu’adh, who decreed that the warriors of Banu Qurayza be executed and the women and children enslaved. Muhammad approved this decision and said it was in accordance with the will of God. <\/p>

    Sahih Bukhari 4:52:280 narrates Muhammad’s order to fight the Banu Qurayza after they broke the pact. The men were executed, and the women and children were enslaved. <\/p>

    These types of precepts may have influenced the commission of Muslim genocides, such as the massacres of Hindus in India during the 16th and 17th centuries (which some estimate at hundreds of millions killed), of the Hindu and secularist population in Bangladesh in 1971, of Christians and animists in Sudan, etc.<\/p>


    LET US REINTERPRET THESE TEXTS!<\/strong><\/p>

    Fortunately, there are more and more modernist Muslims who oppose this type of jihadism characteristic of fundamentalist Islamism. They question the validity of the Hadiths, as they were written several centuries after Muhammad’s death, and interpret the Quranic verses in the context of self-defense, breach of pacts by enemies, and specific wartime situations during Muhammad’s era.     They consider that these verses do not incite unjustified aggression against non-Muslims, but rather that the fundamental principles of Islam promote peace, justice, and legitimate self-defense against oppression and aggression. Therefore, they reject any interpretation that justifies non-defensive violence against others. They also understand jihad as an effort of self-improvement to become a better person, rather than something violent.<\/p>

    Furthermore, they emphasize freedom of religion and conscience based on Quranic verse 2:256<\/strong>:<\/strong> “There is no compulsion in religion, for the right guidance is clearly distinguished from error.”<\/p>

    Let us help them spread this benign and tolerant vision among Muslim communities. How? To begin with, by signing the following campaigns to request: <\/p>

      2. An immigration policy that prevents the arrival of such individuals<\/strong>. Sign\u2026<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/li><\/ol>
