Therefore, it is a good thing that each of us, as far as we can, contributes in the wealth-generating process. The greater the percentage of people doing their part in a country, and the harder they work, the more purchasing power increases. This typically leads to better education, healthcare and support for those who cannot fend for themselves, etc. Conversely, the more people who simply lie to watch others work, the more poverty there is. <\/span><\/p>

There are basically three ways to obtain economic resources: producing them through our own effort, receiving them as a voluntary gift from someone or taking them from someone, either directly or indirectly through the State or other means. The first two are honest, but the third is not.<\/p>

LIVE WITHOUT HARMING: Act with honesty<\/em><\/a><\/span><\/p>

Let us obtain wealth honestly, by the sweat of our own brow and not with the sweat of others against their will. It is better to be ants (within a balance that makes us happy) than grasshoppers, and especially better than parasitic ticks. If we can fend for ourselves, let us take responsibility, be proactive, and contribute instead of waiting for others or the State to take care of us.<\/span><\/p>

Let us move away from the selfish, short-sighted, and tunnel-visioned perspective of “ME NOW”\u2014that is, demanding things for myself (and my loved ones as extensions of myself) in the immediate term at the cost of taking from others. Instead, let us have a broader, medium and long term perspective that includes others. Let us be capable of sacrificing a part of the present to have a better future, both for ourselves and our loved ones as well as for society as a whole.<\/p>

Instead of envying those who have more and wishing to take it from them, it is better to take them as an example and follow the keys to success of those who have achieved it through their own merits. In Finland, there is a saying: if someone has something great, do not envy them, because they did not take it from you. Let us learn from the United States, where the “self-made man” is often admired, and this serves as an incentive to emulate and, consequently, achieve success. Therefore, it is not surprising that this country is one of those with the highest per capita income in the world, despite having such a large population with such diverse cultural origins.<\/p>

At a political level, let us not vote for clientelist parties that plunder others to give us small short-term economic privileges, as this will damage the economy in the medium and long term and, therefore, our purchasing power and that of everyone else. This is because salaries, pensions, and other public benefits depend on the per capita income of each country. That is why they are much higher in Switzerland than in Burundi.<\/p>

LIVE WITHOUT HARMING: Reject institutionalized theft<\/em><\/a><\/span><\/p>

In countries with a high life expectancy and therefore a large aging population, let us not expect retirees to collect public pensions exceeding what they contributed at the cost of plundering younger generations. Nor should we damage the economy to the point of stagnation or even economic decline, as is happening in Japan, Italy, or Spain. Instead, let us increase the retirement age, except for those who are no longer in a condition to work. In the healthcare system, would it not be preferable to prioritize quality over quantity of life? This will also improve people’s happiness.<\/p>

HOW TO LIVE WITHOUT HARMING? Protect nature and avoid overpopulation <\/em><\/a><\/span><\/p>
