Some say that we should not judge. However, without value judgments there would be no justice<\/span><\/span><\/a>, only the law of the strongest and of personal convenience. If we assume that nothing is wrong, the result would be a state of barbarism in which abuses and cruelties would multiply. <\/p>

It is true that, objectively, nothing is good or bad: everything is neutral. In matters of ethics, no one holds the truth. That is, all atrocities against innocents\u2014such as the Jewish Holocaust, the subjugation of women to their husbands, or their rape as part of the spoils of war\u2014are neither good nor bad, but merely neutral phenomena that occur in nature, like a rainbow or a storm. <\/p>

However, if we do not wish to live in hell, it is necessary to start from a notion of good and evil\u2014for example, considering that slavery, crucifixion, impalement or torture are immoral. Because as long as there is a belief that they are right, they are normalized and become a social practice. <\/p>

On the contrary, it is when they are regarded as wrong that they tend to disappear. From that point onward come judgment and condemnation, with negative consequences that discourage committing such acts. This cause-and-effect relationship is similar to a car: if you want it to move, you have to press the accelerator. If you do not, it will remain stationary. <\/p>

If we were to choose cultural relativism, we would be endorsing the practice carried out in China, Japan or other Asian countries of burying children\u2014and especially girls\u2014ALIVE beneath the foundations of important buildings so that they would be solid. And also the more general practice of trampling on others because I want to, because I can, and because I gain some benefit from it. <\/p>
