LET'S LIVE WITHOUT HARMING!: LET US DEPART FROM THE DECALOGUE OF EVIL

If we want a better world to live in, with less suffering and abuse, it is necessary to change the 10 ways of thinking that cause much cruelty:

1. Racism/ethnicism/xenophobia/ultranationalism.

2. Speciesism.

3. Imperialism, militarism, warmongering, and the cult of violence.

4. Machismo (and to a much lesser extent, pseudo-feminist matriarchalism).

5. Illiberal traditionalism stubbornly maintaining injustices, especially conservative Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, and Judaism, and above all if they are fundamentalist, as opposed to benign, tolerant, and modern versions of these religions. Of all these currents, the most dangerous is integrist Islamism.

6. Authoritarian ideologies of the extreme right, from Nazism, Fascism, or National Catholicism to illiberal democratic parties, often being the political embodiment of the aforementioned scourges.

7. Liberticidal and exploitative communism and other harmful variants of the extreme left.

8. Slavery (there are still tens of millions of slaves in the world).

9. Other types of authoritarianisms and totalitarianisms.

10. Other kinds of abusivism, that is, beliefs according to which it is permissible to harm others, except in legitimate self-defense.

All these plagues, although some may seem to be of a different nature, have a common denominator: inflicting suffering on innocent beings, whether human or other sentient beings, sometimes on a large scale. They are different branches of the same tree, that of human malignity.

They can exert a certain appeal, especially to young people, as they connect with instincts and tendencies strongly rooted in the nature of Homo sapiens. In fact, the Decalogue of Evil is a consequence of our hyper-predatory and abusive genetics.

And it is the generator of much suffering and massive violations of human and animal rights throughout history; past, present, and, if we do not act, future. It is the cause of the world having been a semi-dumpster for millennia (when not a true hell, as in certain wars and genocides) with billions of people and TRILLIONS of other sentient beings victimized, sometimes to levels of maximum cruelty.

The 10 mental plagues constitute a true circle of evil that oppresses what it envelops and harms what it touches. We all have such beliefs, so it is advisable for all of us to take up the mop and do some mental cleansing to achieve a happier world.

Some say that one must be respectful of all ways of thinking, but then should we also be respectful of Nazism? Everything deserves tolerance and consideration, but with one exclusion: the abuse of innocents. Because the apology of injustice, the preaching of cruelty, and the propaganda of evil are never worthy of respect.

A benign attitude towards malignant ideologies is very dangerous. This is what happened with Nazism and Fascism before World War II. In the West, from the 1920s onwards, there were quite a few, starting with the President of the United States himself, who initially viewed Mussolini favorably for having stopped communism and achieved economic growth, despite the evils he was committing.

Somewhat later, in the 1930s, some in democratic countries adopted a similar attitude towards Nazism for creating a modern and prosperous Germany, despite the abuses it was already committing against social democrats and Jews. For example, in the United Kingdom, there was a current of respect and empathy towards Nazi Germany and of seeing it as a victim of the treatment suffered by the victors of the First World War. Even Kennedy himself, who traveled through that country as a young man, found that ideology suitable for it.

An attitude of indulgence and lukewarmness towards Nazism prevailed. There were some exceptions, such as Churchill, who was one of the few who saw the writing on the wall and spoke clearly about the issue. But he was an outlier until, after the invasion of Poland, he was proven right and appointed Prime Minister.

It is not advisable to be relativistic, understanding, and good-natured with evil: just as there is healthy food and junk food, there are also healthy mindsets and toxic ones, nourishing cultures but also harmful ones, some advanced and others backward or even sometimes very uncivilized and barbaric.

Since Nazism and Fascism were the losers of World War II, they were stigmatized thereafter. But the rest of the plagues of evil also deserve a cordon sanitaire.

Let’s learn from Germany, which prohibits Nazism, or from the United States, which does the same with communism. All of this is part of a good immune system that protects liberal democracy respectful of everyone’s rights.

Another antidote is to avoid toxic indoctrination and instead foster the ability to reason and think for oneself, as well as educating children and adults about the damage caused by these 10 very toxic mindsets.

FOR A WORLD WITHOUT HARM: Let’s think for ourselves and erase toxic indoctrination

THE ART OF LIVING WITHOUT CAUSING HARM: Let us be rational

And, of course, it is advisable to reform, among other things, the harmful part of:

  • The authoritarian far-right, evolving towards a moderate and liberal right, as happened with sociological Francoism in Spain or with Meloni’s party in Italy. Read more…
  • The liberticidal and exploitative far-left, moving towards social democratic positions, as has happened in many countries where this branch split from the Marxist one. And just as the latter current has been a failure wherever it has been implemented, social democracy has made great contributions to humanity. Read more…
  • Religions in their traditionalist and harmful version, transitioning to a benign, reformist, and tolerant interpretation. Read more…

And, consequently, LET’S DARE TO TALK ABOUT POLITICS AND RELIGION! to change everything that is harmful to innocents.
