DODECALOGUE OF KINDNESS

Since we live in a world where so many people harm others, if we want to avoid this, it is necessary to spread far and wide the ethics of a good and cruelty-free person who avoids causing suffering:

  1. You shall not cause harm to others, to any sentient being, with the exception of legitimate self-defense or the defense of others, only against the aggressor and never against innocent people (hereinafter, justified harm).
  1. If you have caused unjustified harm, you shall repair it to the point where the victim is compensated for having received the harm and then the indemnity. Furthermore, you shall sincerely repent and apologize.
  1. You shall respect the rights and freedoms of others. All sentient beings are free by birthright, with the primary limitation of not harming others. Therefore, you shall live and let live.
  1. You shall be honest, upright, noble, righteous, and play fair, avoiding any type of injustice. You shall not apply double standards.
  1. You shall have non-abusive, free relationships based on mutual benefit, fulfilling your part of the agreements you have freely entered into.
  1. You shall generate wealth honestly and shall not attempt to take from others, either directly or indirectly (nor through the State), what they have achieved honestly. When creating wealth, you shall cause minimal harm to nature.
  1. You shall respect others, even if they are very different, and you shall not damage their reputation unless they have caused unjustified harm. You shall never defame.
  1. You shall love the truth and be sincere, avoiding lies (with the sole exception of harmless white lies), manipulation, and misrepresentation.
  1. You shall judge with justice: you shall only judge and condemn those who have intentionally caused unjustified harm and never an innocent person. The sentence shall consist of the obligation of full reparation (or as full as possible) for the harm caused, but no more than that unless necessary to prevent the aggressor from victimizing again. You shall be tolerant, but not of abuse.
  1. You shall do something to prevent others from causing unjustified harm, by disapproving of them, opposing them, and above all, using education to prevent them. If you can, you shall take measures to stop them and ensure the victim is justly compensated.
  1. You shall help yourself as much as you can, assuming responsibility for your life and those of the beings in your care. If you can provide for yourself, you shall not expect others or the State to solve your life for you, thus avoiding overburdening others or taking advantage of them. You shall provide some form of help to those who cannot help themselves and encourage those who can help themselves to do so, if they wish. You shall provide your fair contribution to the groups you belong to, doing your part, and you shall not attempt to receive from them more than what is justly yours.
  1. You shall educate your children in the ethics of a good person and spread these ethics as much as possible throughout society, thus contributing your part to achieving a better world.

All of the above can be summarized more simply as follows:

  1. You shall not harm others.
  2. You shall not harm others.
