Freedom is a great treasure with a significant correlation to happiness; its deprivation causes discomfort and suffering. Read more…
Unfortunately, approximately 70% of the population lives under illiberal authoritarian regimes. And in countries that do have liberal democracies, there is still a long way to go.
Therefore, the first step is to avoid the 5 repressive antagonists of freedom:
1.- The authoritarian far-right. Read more…
2.- The freedom-destroying far-left. Read more…
3.- Illiberal conservatism and especially religious fundamentalism (Christian, Islamic, Jewish, Hindu, etc.). Read more…
4.- In general, all types of totalitarianism and authoritarianism. Read more…
5.- False liberalism.
The latter consists of freedom only for a privileged few. True liberalism is for everyone, including all sentient beings, because otherwise, it is a tyranny, consisting of the despots’ freedom to trample on their oppressed.
Therefore, true liberalism is accompanied by law and order, because otherwise, what we have is chaos and abuse. This is what happened in Russia in the 1990s after the fall of communism, which is why many Russians have turned their backs on freedom and embraced authoritarianism again.
LIVE WITHOUT HARM: Be what you want to be, but without harming anyone
False liberals detest prohibitions and sanctions when they are the ones causing harm to others, but they love them when others do the same to them. They adore the funnel law, wide for them and narrow for others. In reality, it is very human, because we are egocentric and want the world to our measure, taste, and convenience.
HOW TO LIVE WITHOUT HARMING? Let’s be impartial and avoid double standards
FOR A WORLD WITHOUT HARM: Let’s enjoy positive selfishness and avoid negative selfishness
For example, there are abusers who invoke the noble value of freedom to oppose animal welfare laws, such as those prohibiting their mistreatment. And so, when cruel animal festivals, like bullfights, are abolished, they act as fake liberals, stating, “Prohibiting is prohibited.” But if someone wanted to stick banderillas and swords into them instead of bulls, they would stop appealing to freedom and would be the first to demand a prohibition.
LET US NOT STAIN THE WORD FREEDOM WITH SUCH VILE ACTS!
There has always been a struggle, peaceful or violent, between despots who have tried to curtail our freedom and free men and women who have rebelled against oppression. A crucial moment was at the end of the 18th century, when in the American Revolution they fought with the cry of “Freedom or death” and in the French Revolution with “Liberté ou Mort.” Both mean “Liberty or Death,” slogans that would be repeated in different languages in other liberal revolutions inspired by the first ones and that would give rise to the current liberal democracies that we fortunately enjoy today in many countries.
That battle still exists everywhere in current times. In some places more evidently, with significant demonstrations challenging power. This is the case in Iran, where part of the population rebels against its theocratic regime, or Georgia and Belarus, where pro-Westerners resist the authoritarian drifts of the pro-Russian authorities, trying to build a dam of containment. And in other places, it takes place less conspicuously, in the form of a cultural war.
There is still a long way to go, much longer in some countries than in others. And let’s hope it continues until the cause of freedom triumphs over oppression.
How can we help the liberating side triumph over the despotic one? Some of the ways are the following:
1.- Signing this campaign to demand freedom and high-quality democracies worldwide… SIGN NOW!…
2.- Share and convince. Read more…
3.- Support in some way those who rebel against abusive imposition in different parts of the world, especially where there is more repression.
4.- Financially support the Institute of Well-being so that it can disseminate these ideas to the maximum number of people in the maximum number of countries… DONATE!…
Almost to conclude, I want to dedicate this article to all those who have fought and continue to fight for freedom and against tyrannies of any kind, especially those who have suffered imprisonment, exile, assassination, or even torture for this noble cause. Thank you for the freedom that millions of people enjoy today, and may this text serve as a tribute.
And I will conclude with the motto of the state of New Hampshire, the most famous in the United States:
Thank you for sharing and collaborating in other ways,
