LET'S LIVE WITHOUT HARMING! NOT EVEN FARM PIGS

Do you want me to cut off your testicles? No, right? So why do you consume meat from pigs whose testicles have been cut off without anesthesia? Do you want me to pull out your teeth without anesthesia? And also amputate some other limb that causes you suffering? What do you prefer: a finger, an ear, your nose, or your penis? Because that is what is systematically done to the billions of pigs exploited and mistreated on farms, whose genitals and tails are cut off and teeth are painfully pulled out. Because, according to science, they feel as much as we do, as they have the same pain receptors and nervous and cerebral system structure.

As if that weren’t enough, to move them, they use sticks with spikes that they stick into their genitals (as they are the most sensitive parts) or sticks with electric shocks. Not even the Jews were subjected to that to make them move.

The suffering we inflict on them is intense but at least short-lived, in contrast to other chronic discomforts we cause them: living constantly confined, overcrowded (to the point where they can barely move), among excrement, without seeing sunlight, without being able to live a life according to their nature, and without being able to do practically anything they like apart from eating feed, drinking water, and sleeping.

This reaches its maximum level with sows, who spend a good part of their lives literally immobilized, to the point where they cannot even turn around. Obviously, by not being able to move, the bars end up causing them painful sores.

How would you feel if you or a loved one were kidnapped and subjected to all or some of these atrocities?

And how would you feel if the only way to be free of all of it were the day you were loaded onto a truck to go to a slaughterhouse more crowded than the Jews were in the trains to Auschwitz?

The Jews were as distressed as the pigs and also went hungry and thirsty during those journeys in which they were given nothing to eat or drink, but at least they could sit and lie down on the floor of the train. By contrast, many pigs do not even have enough space to lie down and rest. In addition, unlike the Jews, they are thrown against the truck and suffer injuries.

And to all this must be added their suffering in the slaughterhouse.

The good news is that humans generally have an evil side (with great differences between individuals) but not entirely, as most of us have a part in our brain, specifically the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, where our sense of justice resides. This tells us that harming others is wrong, unless it is in legitimate self-defense. One would have to be very psychopathic to not have that innate sense of ethics at all.

Therefore, I appeal to this sense to ask you to please consume meat from free-range animals (such as organic meat) or, even better, replace meat with high-nutritional-value plant proteins, such as tofu, delicious soy yogurts, soy milk, hemp protein, rice and pea protein… read more.

Nowadays it has become very easy, since much of it can be found in most supermarkets and the rest on Amazon.

Ah! And let us also take the example of California voters, who in a referendum approved Proposition 12 in 2018, which brings significant improvements for farm animals, such as ensuring that pigs have enough space to lie down, stand up, stretch their limbs, or turn around freely.

Thank you for being compassionate, proactive, and for sharing,

Xavier Paya
