This type of supremacism involves believing ourselves superior to other animals, and thus entitled to exploit them for our benefit and cause them suffering. It is very similar to racist supremacism (such as white or Japanese), ethnic supremacism (like the German-speaking supremacism of the Nazis or that of other ultra-gregarious groups), or nationalist supremacism, also known as chauvinism.

Although almost all of us tend to fall into some kind of beliefs and feelings of superiority and inferiority, this is a flawed way of thinking. Objectively, no one is superior to anyone else; rather, each of us is just another integral element of nature and the universe. From a scientific point of view, we are nothing more than a handful of particles with associated energy. Moreover, some of these particles are constantly entering and leaving us through breathing, eating, drinking, urinating, etc.
Not only are we not superior even to the chair we sit on, the tiles we walk on, the apple we eat, or the air we breathe, but there is no clear distinction between us and our surroundings, as all of it is actually a large field of particles in constant interaction.
They group together, forming different structures, such as a person, a dog, or a flower, ephemerally for a time, only to then adopt other forms.
Another typical argument used by speciesist supremacists to justify our superiority is that humans possess intelligence while other species do not. They assert this with conviction, despite not having bothered to spend even 5 minutes consulting Google on the matter (which, incidentally, indicates a significant lack of the very intelligence they boast about). If they did, they would realize that their claim is another error, as researchers on this topic state that mammals like cows or pigs have an intelligence level comparable to that of a child up to 4 years old.
FOR A WORLD WITHOUT HARM: Let’s Reject Narratives Justifying Cruelty
If we apply the same logic used by speciesists, is an adult superior to a child and therefore entitled to exploit and abuse them? And can a gifted person consequently do the same to someone with average intelligence? And can that person do the same to someone with Down syndrome? Is a hen superior to a 2-year-old child because it is more intelligent?
But don’t go yet, because there’s more. Experts say that cetaceans possibly process thoughts and emotions more complex than Homo sapiens, as they have greater encephalization than us. Dolphins even have 40% more cortex and with more folds. Other research has shown that dogs have more empathy than humans, with that brain area being more developed in them.
Scientists at the Max Planck Institute have studied birds in European cities, such as parakeets, and have discovered that they not only communicate with each other using oral language, but also that each city has a different dialect, just like humans. Another study has found that each elephant has a name and that they call each other by it. And that the sounds they emit are not mere noises, but language.

Furthermore, many narcissistically and conceitedly believe that humans are rational beings, unlike other species. But the reality is very different, as most people have average to low analytical capacities that prevent them from rationalizing and questioning what they have been taught on their own. Some of them can do so when an external person prompts them to question if it is true, when someone presses their questioning button, but not on their own. And some cannot even with that external help.
It is paradoxical that precisely those who most wield the argument of intelligence and rationality to selfishly abuse other sentient beings are the ones who have the least reason to be proud of their IQ. Because it has been shown that there is a correlation between higher intelligence and veganism and respect for animals, and vice versa.

Another proof that our conceptions about other species are subjective is the great difference in these conceptions across cultures. For Hindus, cows are sacred, but they can use and abuse pigs. In contrast, traditional Muslims cannot consume pigs but can consume cows, and they consider dogs impure animals, so they are forbidden from having them as pets. Conversely, in Western culture, dogs hold a position of great privilege, unlike cows and pigs.
This great, incongruous diversity of notions demonstrates that they are invented and transmitted from parents to children. It also shows that we are so intellectually limited that we foolishly believe them simply because we were told or have seen them that way since childhood. Far from having any intellectual solidity, they are mere smoke that vanishes with a mere puff.
One example of our narcissistic supremacism is using the names of other species as insults or derogatory terms, such as the word “animal” or “beast” as a synonym for brute, while using the term “human” as its opposite, despite no species committing the atrocities of Homo sapiens. That is, we flip the coin and then wear it as a medal, even though it belongs to us, because we are narcissists.
LET’S LIVE WITHOUT CAUSING HARM! Let’s Combat the Perverse Narcissism We All Possess
If we want to be supremacists, let’s not be supremacists towards animals, but towards “animals” – that is, towards the ignorant brutes, towards those who are excessively abusive, malicious, and uncivilized.
Another very typical example is using ‘cerdo,’ ‘marrano,’ ‘cochino,’ ‘puerco,’ ‘gorrino,’ or ‘guarro’ (all meaning ‘pig’) as synonyms for ‘dirty,’ despite this species being very clean. It is humans who keep them in cages or spaces so small that they have no choice but to defecate and urinate in the same spot. And there are many more, such as vermin, pest, scavenger, vulture, hyena, bastard, worm, viper, evil creature, donkey, fox, hen, sheep, rat, bitch, etc.
All of this is a lack of respect stemming from toxic societies. Therefore, isn’t it better to change our mindset and help others do the same? I’ll give you some ideas on how to do it in…
