If we want a better world to live in, with less suffering and abuse, it is necessary to change the 10 main mindsets that cause many evils: racism/ultranationalism, speciesism, imperialism, machism, illiberal traditionalism, far-right extremism, communism, slavery, authoritarianism, and abusiveness… read more at…
LIVING WITHOUT HARMING: Let us distance ourselves from the DECALOGUE OF EVIL
We all hold beliefs of this kind, so it is advisable for everyone to perform a mental cleansing to achieve a happier world. Within this enormous task of creating a happier world to live in lies the reform of communism—a worthy mission that I encourage all communists of good faith to carry out.
To do this, it is first necessary to fully understand the problem (to what extent communism causes great suffering and outrages) in order to then address its solution.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM
Communist regimes have generally brought improvements, such as literacy (though this has also occurred in capitalist liberal democracies), industrialization in some countries (less so than in the West), improved healthcare for the lower classes (but not as much as in social democracies), and guaranteed employment for all or nearly all.
However, they are also guilty of the 10 Communist Horsemen of the Apocalypse:
1. Massive genocides and famines: between approximately 100 and 150 MILLION deaths.
2. Horrific tortures, such as impalement, crucifixion, flaying (skinning alive), inserting rats into entrails, etc.
3. Forced labor camps: more than 20 MILLION victims.
4. Large-scale displacement against their will: more than 10 MILLION people.
5. Totalitarian dictatorships, oppressive and repressive, committing massive human rights violations.
6. Atmosphere of fear: communism has been accompanied by terror everywhere it has been introduced, as it is otherwise impossible to impose it on the majority.
7. Exploitation of the proletariat, including slave labor.
8. Poor standard of living: in North Korea, 22 times lower than in South Korea; in Eastern Europe, 7 times lower than in Western Europe, etc.
9. Liberticide: freedoms are a vital component of human happiness, and many have been abolished by far-left tyrannies.
10. Low level of subjective well-being (what people claim to have), which according to various studies is much lower in communist dictatorships than in capitalist liberal democracies. This great life dissatisfaction led to a massive stampede of tens of millions of migrants from the former countries to the latter.

THE SOLUTION TO THE COMMUNIST PROBLEM: REFORM AND REORIENTATION
Generally speaking, the best way to reform Marxism is by moving toward social democratic positions—an ideology that has not only avoided the havoc of communism but has also made great contributions to human well-being. In this sense, it has reduced working hours to levels compatible with well-being, banned child labor, and achieved a decent life for retirees and people with disabilities. It has also provided access to healthcare for those who could not afford it, women’s rights, LGTBI rights, etc. I am not a voter (at least currently) of any socialist party, but I feel great respect and gratitude for moderate social democracy.
On a more concrete level, if what you want is primary care where doctors dedicate 15 or 20 minutes to patients instead of 10, or to reduce surgical waiting lists, it may be more effective to create or join an initiative aimed at those specific goals. This is better than supporting parties that, if they held power in the medium and long term, could cause a great deterioration of healthcare—as has happened in Venezuela. If they sink the ship of the economy, they also submerge the cabins containing the various public services and components of the welfare state.
And on a more individual level, if you enjoy a collectivized life (which is natural for many, as the human race has lived most of its history in hunter-gatherer bands that shared everything), live that way, but do not impose it on anyone.
In other words, apply a liberal communism: seek out others who freely decide to live that way with you, whether in the form of a cooperative, a commune, or any other arrangement you can imagine. In a liberal capitalist democracy, all of this is possible. If you want the means of production to be collectively owned, do not steal them from anyone to collectivize them; instead, create a cooperative with other interested parties and use your own funds to acquire the means of production you need.
And if you do not yet have that money, work, save, and take out loans to obtain it, just as entrepreneurs typically do. But always live and let live. Carry out your communitarian dream with others who also desire it, but leave the rest in peace; share with those who wish to share, but without harming anyone and without taking from anyone what is theirs.
Because we do not all have to go in the same direction, like racing cars on a Formula One circuit; rather, each person is a ship with a course they decide for themselves. Therefore, there is a great diversity of vessels and routes, which sometimes cross and other times diverge. This is what is called FREEDOM.

Those who in any way supported communist parties and the like that have caused so much suffering are co-responsible for it all. They are the columns upon which that great architectural monster rested. Let us not be accomplices ourselves, but rather honest and decent citizens who oppose any ideology or mindset that causes harm to innocents.

The Marxist threat, contrary to what it may seem, has not disappeared; it remains there, even though the Berlin Wall has fallen, just as the risk of an epidemic has not disappeared even though we have overcome Covid. Any misfortune that has occurred in the past can happen again, as history is sometimes cyclical.
Let us not take any of the progress achieved for granted—not even the democracy, freedoms, rights, and prosperity we enjoy today—as some countries also achieved progress only to fall into great regressions. Let us never lower our guard, because abuse in its multiple forms is part of human nature and can manifest where you least expect it, when you least expect it. It is a bear hibernating in a cave that can wake up at any moment.
