LET'S LIVE WITHOUT CAUSING HARM! NOT EVEN TO FAST-GROWING CHICKENS

Imagine your baby being genetically modified so that, once born, they reach 300 kilograms by the age of 2 months, but without having developed their bone structure, meaning their legs cannot support such weight. This implies that as a child, they will likely suffer leg fractures. They will barely be able to move, unable to play or do other things typical of children, feeling distressed because of it. Additionally, they will develop sores on their bottom and legs.

Furthermore, imagine that it soils itself and consequently is always sitting in its own excrement and that of other children, which will lead to its sores becoming infected. Moreover, its heart, lungs, etc., will not be adequately developed for such a large muscle mass, leading to cardiac and respiratory disorders that will cause it to suffer.

The sum of all this will be chronic discomfort and pain, as well as premature death.

But even worse than all of this (or perhaps better, as it would mean their liberation from suffering) is when, due to their bone fractures, they can no longer reach food and drink and slowly die of thirst and hunger.

What would you say if they did that to your child or to you?

Well, that is what happens to broiler or fast-growing chickens, almost all of which are consumed in Spain (96.5%) and over 90% of those raised in Europe. This is an animal exploitation system designed precisely to suit the selfish interests of the meat industry and human consumers, and is entirely contrary to the welfare of HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS of oppressed chickens. In fact, the European Food Safety Authority has recognized that this genetic selection in fast-growing chickens has a disastrous impact on their quality of life.

Almost all chicken meat consumers are complicit in this tyranny. One cannot cause such chronic suffering (especially to so many victims) and be a good person at the same time. It is incompatible.

Some might think they are a good person because, despite all this, they are affectionate towards other human beings, do them favors, and perhaps contribute a membership fee or some time to an NGO. But charity is not like Ariel, the detergent that cleans everything; it cannot whitewash all kinds of cruelties committed, whether as perpetrator or accomplice.

The good news is that the European Parliament has accepted a petition to ban the rearing of fast-growing chickens. Let’s hope they approve it!

While this happens, what can you do to prevent such cruelty? It’s very simple: eat organic or free-range slow-growing chicken, or do not eat chicken at all. And share this information so that everyone can be well-informed about the harm being caused to hundreds of billions of sentient beings.

Thank you very much for sharing,

Xavier Paya
