In some more advanced countries, such as Switzerland, the grinding of chicks has already been banned. Instead, they use a much more civilized system to determine the sex within the eggs. This has a higher cost, which is why farms oppose it, as they seek to optimize profit at the expense of others’ suffering. And the same largely happens with most consumers: they primarily want cheap meat, eggs, and dairy, even if it is at the expense of harming others.
But we are not only hyper-predation and negative selfishness (seeking good things for ourselves and our loved ones at the expense of others); we also have an innate sense of justice in a part of our brain that tells us what is right and what is wrong. That is why I appeal to your congenital sense of ethics to sign the Animal Equality campaign against the grinding of live chicks.
It is good to move from negative selfishness to a healthy kind, which consists of being as happy as possible without harming others, preferably also contributing to building a better world for everyone to live in—a happier world with less abuse and cruelty.
