LET US LIVE WITHOUT CAUSING HARM!: DO NOT GO TO DOLPHINARIUMS

WATCH VIDEO

Imagine that your nature is to roam the seas, covering great distances with your own kind—up to 165 km a day. That is what makes you happy. But you are abducted, separated from your family, and condemned to live your entire life in a pool so that your kidnappers can profit. Your happiness in exchange for their gain.

In addition, they insult you and kick and punch you so that you perform whatever tricks they want, whenever they want. They make you work for hours every day, turning you into their slave. You cannot do what you enjoy, develop your natural behaviours, or use your abilities, such as echolocation, because in a pool there is nothing to discover.

You will suffer boredom and stress at the same time, and when you are pregnant you may miscarry because of it. Instead of being with your close-knit natural group made up of dozens of family members and friends, you will be with just a few strangers, even from other species, and it is possible that one of them will harass you, but you will have nowhere to escape.

Your captors do not consider whether all of that is what you want or how you feel, because the only thing they care about is making money, at the expense of your freedom and well-being. It is an exploitative relationship because it is neither freely consented to nor designed for both parties to benefit, but only one: the party that imposes it.

What would you think?

That is what they do to dolphins, orcas, and belugas in dolphinariums. Let us have relationships with everyone, including non-human animals, that are free, mutually reciprocal, and respectful.

What can an empathetic person do to prevent these abuses?

SOS Dolphins suggests this…

Thank you for being a good person, not remaining indifferent, and sharing,

Xavier Paya
