AVOID HARMING OTHERS

We can choose between two philosophies of life:

1. LIFE IS ABOUT HARMING OTHERS AND BEING HARMED BY THEM.

2. NOT HARMING OTHERS NOR LETTING THEM HARM US.

The first is based on “might is right” (law of the strongest). It is well-adapted to this world, governed by the law of our survival and that of our genes, but it causes much suffering to BILLIONS with a B of human and non-human beings.

The second, on the contrary, is based on living as happily as possible and contributing to others doing the same. And, as a consequence, it leads to a much more pleasant world to live in.

The first starts with the selfish desire to win at the expense of others (win-lose), but the final result is usually that we all end up losing (lose-lose), living in a semi-dump, if not a literal hell—for example, in certain wars and genocides.

The second, on the contrary, starts with an aspiration for justice where we all win (win-win), from freely consented and mutually beneficial relationships. And, therefore, it leads to a decent and functional world, with much higher levels of well-being for everyone.

Since we no longer need to fight each other for survival, to the extent that we have a minimally efficient economy, it is no longer necessary for us to behave like savages, being able to change the model of living and relating toward a more evolved one.

Let us generate wealth in an honest way and be civilized, respectful, considerate, and good people. And let us stop stealing the well-being, freedom, possessions, or even the lives of others, which is what continues to be done today, in varying degrees, to billions of people and especially to BILLIONS with a B of non-human sentient beings that inhabit the planet.

Or, if you prefer it blunt and colloquial: let’s not be a pain in the neck to others, let’s not screw others over, let’s not mess with others, let’s stop fucking with others, let’s stop giving others a hard time. Instead, let’s live and let others live.

Because, even from a purely selfish point of view, if the philosophy of doing good instead of evil does not prevail, sooner or later you and your loved ones will also be victims of harm.

The human race, being a hyper-predatory species, is born holding a boomerang, which we throw repeatedly but which also, over and over again, turns back against us, hitting us. And sometimes it happens brutally, as in World War I, with 20 million dead, or World War II, with 75 to 80 million dead.

Well, those figures are for the lucky ones who stopped suffering, because many of those who remained were wounded and in pain, totally or partially disabled for work and a normal life, traumatized, orphaned, with the loss of loved ones, in poverty and hunger, displaced, etc. That is to say, with some frequency we create vales of tears instead of doing everything possible to build an earthly paradise.

Since our genetics have not changed (it does not do so in a few decades but rather in thousands of years),

the risk of large-scale suffering repeating itself is always present, no matter how much some think that the progress achieved is already guaranteed forever and ever.

To avoid it, we can take our toolbox and use three of them:

1.- Improving ourselves, for a start. Since we have a natural tendency to do harm, reinforced by the education received and by the influence of the herd and tradition, it is necessary to restrain those impulses, except in cases of legitimate self-defense against an aggressor. In general, it is good to be true to ourselves, but not in these types of malicious instincts.

All or almost all of us can change, because all or most of us have a kind side, where our innate sense of justice lies (one would have to be very psychopathic not to have it), which tells us that harming innocents is wrong. We can all be the authors of our own sculpture.

2.-Raising awareness and convincing others, for example, by sharing these types of messages. With this, we will press a button that will activate a gear, which in turn will move another, and so on.

LET’S PREVENT HARM! Let’s share and persuade so that they do not cause harm

3.-Intensely educating children and teenagers in the culture of kindness, respect, tolerance toward the harmless, freedom, and justice. They are like sponges, and what they absorb will likely remain.

The cultural war between good and evil has always existed, between those who have fought against injustices and evils and those who have done so so that they would remain. And in the middle, the onlookers, enablers of abuse. Which side do you think it is better for you to be on?

We have all abused, but we can all make amends and change sides. The difference between the “good” and the “bad” is that the good repent and rectify. Do it before it is too late, because, if you were about to die and looked back, what would you wish you had done that you haven’t?

If someone hurt you and you didn’t like it, share this. If you don’t want it to happen again to you, your loved ones, or others, spread this message and others like the DODECALOGUE OF KINDNESS.

Thank you,

Xavier Paya
