LET'S AVOID HARM!: GIVE MEANING TO OUR LIVES BY DOING SOMETHING FOR A BETTER WORLD

In what kind of world would you like to live? In one with more or less suffering? In one with more cruelty or in one with fewer injustices?

And now, 5 more questions:

1. If you were about to die, what would you wish you had done that you haven’t?

2. Are you going to settle for just having the best time possible and having a life that is as pleasant and superficial as possible, with conversations—whether in person or virtual—that are lighthearted, fun, and politically, socially, and religiously correct?

3. Or do you prefer to have a broader outlook and contribute to leaving the world better than you found it?

4. Is your only aspiration really a life basically oriented toward you and your loved ones—who are an extension of yourself—being as well as possible, even if it is at the cost of causing suffering to many sentient beings?

5. Or deep down, would you like to leave your descendants and future generations a happier world to live in?

I am not satisfied with sometimes experiencing suffering and seeing others suffer as well, unless it is to find the way to eliminate it. For me, it makes no sense to live in a world with so much injustice and cruelty if it is not to fight against it. It is not worth being on a planet where some trample on others if it is not to prevent it. And it is not worth residing in this semi-dump if it is not to clean it up.

Let us seek happiness not only for ourselves, our loved ones, and a few others, but for everyone in general. Let us create a world that is beneficial and tailored to all sentient beings.

Let us not focus only on our own prosperity, health, fun, relationships, and desires, or those of our family and group. Let us have a more global vision, because I am not the only one in the world; there are billions more human beings and BILLIONS with a B of non-human sentient beings who also seek to feel good and avoid pain. Let us look at the whole picture and not just some small subset of it.

At the Wellbeing Institute, we teach through our books and free courses, above all, what any person can do to improve their individual happiness. Secondly, that of their children. But it is not enough, because it is worth going beyond ourselves and our small circle of those closest to us to encompass all sentient beings.

WHAT CAN A GOOD PERSON DO TO CONTRIBUTE TO A HAPPIER WORLD?:
