LET US AVOID HARM IN CHRISTIANITY!: LET US REFORM ITS ABUSIVE SIDE

LET US REFORM THE HARMFUL PART OF CHRISTIANITY TO HAVE A HAPPIER NEW YEAR

Shortly before Christmas 2023, specifically on December 18, the day after his birthday, Pope Francis gave the world his Christmas gift by authorizing priests to bless same-sex and divorced couples.

It was major news and an important further step on the right path of reform the pontiff is pursuing. However, there is still a long way to go before reaching the summit: achieving a fully benign, non-harmful, respectful, tolerant, and just Christianity. Specifically, these improvements are still needed:

1. WOMEN: full equality with men, so that they move from being mere little obedient lambs to whatever their (always male) shepherds order, to having the same rights as men within the Church—being able to become priests, bishops, cardinals, or even Popes, however strange these titles may sound.

2. LGBTI: complete the reform Pope Francis began of points 2357 and following of the Catechism, removing anything that harms the dignity and reputation of this community.

LIVING WITHOUT HARM: Not harming the LGBTI+ community either

3. ANIMALS (non-human): amend points 2415 and following of the Catechism, so that they are not regarded as mere property of people, destined by God solely for their use and enjoyment and therefore as beings that may be exploited, abused, and made to suffer.

Not animals either

4. BIBLE: explicitly disapprove of and condemn all its harmful verses, both from the Old and the New Testament. Read which ones they are at…

5. DOCTRINE THAT CAUSES HARM TO INNOCENTS: reform the rest of the precepts that cause harm not done in legitimate self-defense against an aggressor, such as, for example, points 2351 and following of the Catechism, which undermine the honor and self-esteem of innocent people.

6. ANTI-HUMAN-RIGHTS LAWS AND SERMONS: Take measures to prevent certain priests from promoting the former and delivering the latter.

FOR A WORLD WITHOUT HARM: Let us prevent clergy from promoting laws and delivering sermons that violate human rights

7. REPARATIONS FOR VICTIMS: provide adequate compensation and honor all groups that have been victimized throughout history.

LET US REPAIR THE HARM!: Religious organizations too

Obviously, this path of improvement also applies to other Christian denominations. Some of them are further advanced, forming the little group of top students in the class, such as the Presbyterian or the Anglican (similarly to the Catholic Church in Belgium and Germany). But unfortunately, others—such as the Russian Orthodox Church or certain evangelical denominations (as well as the Catholic Church in Africa)—still have a long road of reform ahead: focusing on what is benign in the doctrine (such as loving and helping one’s neighbor) and eliminating everything that is harmful. They still need to overcome their resistance to using the sieve to separate the nuggets of gold from the mud.

LET US DO SOMETHING SO THEY MOVE FORWARD ON THAT PATH!

LET US AVOID HARM!: Let us apply pressure to change the harmful side of religions

If you are Christian, remember the precept both of Jesus Christ and of the Old Testament to not do to others what you would not want done to you.

May the baby Jesus grant Pope Francis and the rest of religious leaders much health and encouragement so they can continue their reformist path; may the Star of Bethlehem that showed the route to the Three Wise Men guide them along that path of progress and ongoing improvement; and may the angels above the manger protect them from the obstacles they will encounter on that journey.
